We have until 2048 to save humanity. It sounds melodramatic, but it’s reality. 2048 is when science predicts there will be no life left in our oceans. This is caused by multiple factors including plastics choking the ecosystems and heightened levels of CO2 in the atmosphere acidifying our waters.
If our oceans are dead, then humans simply cannot survive on this planet. 70% of the oxygen in our atmosphere is produced by an organism called Phytoplankton. Without them, we won’t be able to breathe the air around us and civilisation will suffocate. We will also lose out on the massive amount of food we harvest from the ocean which will further contribute to out doom. The clock is ticking, and if we don’t act now, if no one starts to genuinely care, humans will disappear without a trace.
