Ross Blog has been on a hiatus since the 20th Patterson Post. I’ve been focussing energy elsewhere, so I thought I’d fire out an update on what’s been going on.
I’ve started a degree in Journalism at Edinburgh Napier. I strongly believe the world needs good journalism now more than ever. Fake news and social media have clouded what’s real and what isn’t. Everyone has a voice and a platform now, which in my opinion is a great thing, but it can lead to difficulties on what’s legitimate information and what isn’t. This is where journalists come in – relaying factual information accurately; communicating truth and building trust; providing objectivity in a world of opinion; offering a non-polarised viewpoint. I hope to do all of these things, which is difficult but important.
I’ve also landed my first paid writing job. I’m now a weekly contributor for the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF). IMMAF is kind of like the MMA Olympics and is widely regarded to be the highest level of amateur mixed martial arts in the world. It’s a prestigious organisation and I’m very humbled to be playing a small part. You can check out all of the articles I’ve written for them here. This one and this one are the best so far.
That’s all from me for now. Thank you all for your interest in what I’m doing. I’d love to hear from you, too. What’s happening in your life? We’re still in the midst of a pandemic, how is that affecting you? What are you working on?
Much love to you all.
